The Families Heritage Project

ICASI presents The Families Heritage Project, a written and oral history of Italian-American families who immigrated to Southern Illinois from Italy in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Our goal is to interview and record the remembrances of members of immigrant families and gather photographs and documents of Italian immigrant families in our region in order to preserve the history of the immigrant experience for the coming generations of Italian-Americans and all those interested in immigrant history in Southern Illinois.

Anyone interested in sharing family history with us or becoming involved in the project, please contact  ICASI at and write “Families Heritage Project” in the subject line.

The link below will take you to a web site that searches for surnames in Italy and places the names on a map of Italy.
